D.L.P.O.A. ANNUAL MEETING -- JUNE 17, 2000

Bruce Bassett opened the meeting at noon.

Fran Bessermin talked about the county budget. She said I-695 made deep cuts in the budget but we got half of it back, resulting in 3 more deputies. She said the county is working on a land use plan and sub area plans. There is a study ongoing re: lake road issues.

The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

Larry Nokes reported on pwc’s. He is still pushing education and asking for feedback and ideas on how to educate more effectively. The idea of plastic coated cards with the basic rules and courtesy thoughts was brought up with good feedback from the audience. There was a question re: minimum age to operate a pwc. The age is 14. Someone mentioned the sign in Tamarack bay is not visible. Larry said it would be relocated.

Fisheries: The release of rainbows, brookies and kokanee was announced. It was mentioned that we now get free fish food from Fish and Wildlife Dept.. The Fish and Wildlife Dept. is buying the 750 acres above the narrows. People asked what that meant and Bruce explained what the gov. has done and will do with the property.

There was a motion to sell the property in the narrows owned by DLPOA. The vote was unanimous to sell. There was a little bit of dissention by a couple of people but nothing came of it.

No shooting zone:
Tim Dschaak gave the history leading to the study of a no shooting zone. There seemed to be a lot of interest in the subject judging by the discussion from the members both for and against. It was decided we need more info from people like the sheriff and prosecutor. Possible approaches would be a petition, public meeting or both. If a petition is done we need to be cautious about the wording to keep it unbiased.

Jerry Brinkman said there were 801 newsletters sent out but only 272 people have paid dues.

A suggestion was made that we need someone to monitor future developments around the lake as they are being looked at by the planning dept.. Most concern was re: large developments and logging. We might need a person on the board to check with the planning dept. on a regular basis.

New Business:
Richard Villalobos brought up that we need a disabled boarding dock at the public launch. It would be a good thing for the general public as well. We will write a letter to the Fish and Wildlife Dept. to see what can be done.

Virgil Standerfer was elected to the board by a vote of the membership.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:35 p.m.

About 80 people attended. A picnic followed the meeting.
